Hi, Dane,
which pictures are you talking about?
I don't have experience with this fish on a fly. May be you have a mistake, the pictures I have are with chubs(klen).
But definitely, I want to catch a carp on a fly like you do.
May be some day I'll come there at your place and try it.
Stay in touch and Best!
Rado

I'm fishing for carp with success with sinking line, white or black booby nymph. It is easy. You have to know where carp is, then cast there, let the line sink to the bottom and then retrieve the line very slowly! You will feel the bait easy. It is loike you are setting the hook into big log :-) Concerning the flies, sometimes I'm using emergers, pupas and nymphs instead of booby nymphs. And my friends discovered one "fly" imitating the bread :-) It is called "the Bread Fly" and it works pretty good.
Here you can see one catch: http://www.flyfish.cz/vltavalipno2.jpg

Hi, gays,

What is this white or black booby nymph?
Dane, what is this frut fly? Is it a immitation of a frut?

Tight lines!

Yes, the fruit fly is imitation of fruit. It can be interesting for chub too.

Yes, I have fished for them a number of times here in Canada. They would take a number of "trout" nymphs, and the classic "wooly bugger" does a great job. The key is not to be noticed by the fish: carp are extremely spooky and most intelligent than other warmwater fish.

Cheers
Ivo

Akulata: no, my friend is on the picture, I was photographing. But we are fishing there for carp pretty often, so I've landed many of them as well. The Booby nymph is pretty popular for the lake trouth fishing. This fly is presentning the dragon fly nymph basicly, made from marabou (marabou body, marabu tail) and with big eyes made from polycelon (floating foam). The floating foam helps you to keep the fly a bit upper from the bottom, so you can retrieve the sinking line very slowly without any problem with loosing the fly on the bottom. Is it clear now? I'll place some photos here soon (I have to do them first).[/code]

Esox: we have big population of amur in czech republic. This is very powerful fish! However this fish is strictly vegetarian as you menetioned. So what flie we should use for them? "The bread fly" or "the fruit fly" could be good. But I have a better one :-) I discovered them as big consumers of green leafs from reed and other water plants. So I made something like a deer hair caddis fly, coloured it by green colour and tried to present it on the water surface. When amur was active, searched for the food, it was pretty succesful fly. Finaly, I discovered the green colour of this "reed fly" is not so neccessary, so you can try the common "Deer Hair caddis" without any problem first. But be prepared, amur is very very shy fish! So cast as long as possible and wait and wait and be very patient! Don't move with the fly!

This is not my personal experience, but I have heard that white amur (grass carp) would occasionaly feed on insects and would take insect immitating flies: i.e. nymphs and wet flies.
Has anyone had such an experience?

a friend of mine caught one with a yellow parachute dry, but I believe it was pure luck. I believe there are more chances to catch the regular carp.

just last week I had a huge one rise to a klinkhammer as I was fishing for chubs and almost wet my pants just to see that mouth open up wide.

I never tried to catch them because I could't belive they can be caught easily, but I will try as soon as I find a good pond with a nice population of carp.

that ideea with sinking lines and bobbies sounds cool, never heard of this style before. I will try that too. thanks!
